Norris Edges Out Oscar Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice
The British driver has outscored his teammate at each of the last five race weekends.
Lando Norris narrowly beat team-mate and title rival Oscar Piastri for the fastest time in the final moments of the practice session at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
The British racer, who seized the championship lead from Piastri by just one point after winning in Mexico City recently, topped the Australian by 0.023 seconds.
Until that point, Oscar Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver throughout the hour before the sprint shootout set to begin at 6:30 PM GMT.
Max Verstappen, the other racer in the championship fight, lying 36 points behind behind Norris, was classified in P17 as his Red Bull team opted for a unique setup.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the sole competitor to crash, if briefly, when he lost control at corner four during the early running.
Tsunoda lost control over the track edges before sliding over the escape zone, and was blessed to avoid just a minor contact of the barrier.
Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton also had a spin, at the conclusion of the session, turning around through the high-speed Mergulho corner approaching the final bend on to the pit straight.
Hamilton ended the session in 19th, just behind teammate Charles Leclerc.
Norris and Piastri were well clear of the rest of the field, with the German's car in third, over half a second slower than Piastri's best.
Aston Martin's the Spanish driver was fourth fastest, with Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto fifth from Mercedes' Russell and Alpine's Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
